I have a undeniable craving to dance and feel a freedom that I once knew. As time progresses,Humans tend to forget the basics. We have created to help curb the cravings and get back to basics. Creating The Vibe. Lets plant the seeds. So we can harvest and everyone shall benefit.
Very rarely will I go into depth about a story posted on the internet, especially when it pertains to Dj culture. Personally, I feel like it is a loaded gun.I like to save my opinions for real life discussions. People tend to say things without a sensor on the internet. Face to Face is a whole other beast.
On to my thoughts on this subject of stopping a Dj from doing his job. Variables lie in every equation. This equations variable is the lack of knowledge. Due to the rapid progression of technology. The haves, have not, and the haves maybe. The veil of the unknown has been lifted. Like electricity. Just because I can turn the light on does not make me an electrician. So, we have “Djs” with a very smart business sense . Then we have Djs who had no other choice but to develop a skill, then fine tune the rest. I as a DJ have been pulled off the tables. It did nothing but make me better. I was still wet behind the ears. A good piece of humble pie only made me better.
Now when it comes to a very established Dj who has contributed to the progression of a movement. Herein lies the issues. One does not go to Las Vegas to enlighten to a higher spiritual state. One goes there to be free of the daily grind.(to put it politely) Corporations of Las Vegas are happy to oblige. It’s a business first and foremost. So one of two things probably happened a high roller who dropped 20 grand in 3 hours complained. Having worked in alot of facets of the service industry ,something was going to be done to appease this person. ( I do not believe the customer is always right.) Or someone on the company’s team came up with the brilliant idea of pull Mark Farina off of the tables and hope he tweets, or post on some social media, so that it will enrage his following and go viral.” Great marketing!” Now people who know next to nothing about house music will be intrigued by the internet outrage and all the intelligent comments left by fans of Mark Farina and House Music. Inevitably go to this club to see what all the fuss is about. Then they will know a little bit more than next to nothing.
I do feel it absolutely disrespectful to have stopped Mark Farina from doing what he does best. As one person who is also a Dj … I can do a few things to help make an impact in a positive sense. 1. Support Mark Farina when he comes to my hometown. 2. Continue to support true local Dj’s,Producers,Record labels, and even the promoters. (look for the ones that have a true passion ) 3. Pass on the knowledge. Sharing is caring 4. Continue to educate my self. So that I can test my limits as an artist. 5.Keep putting my creations out into the world. 6. Refuse to subscribe to the negativity associated with House Music. 7. Contribute and try to help progress the scene.
Vegas has never been on my radar as far as House music is concerned. So Sorry that happened Mark, but guess what you came up in Chicago. I am sure you have dealt with much worse.
I guess I just typed my first rant on the internet. Well, I am going back to posting pictures of flowers on instagram. Discovering my inner Georgia Okeefe. Be well everyone. Love Yazi The Dj
